Sturmey Archer Mechanical Drum Brakes
Sturmey Archer Drum brakes are extremely reliable and perform superbly on our trikes. These brakes don’t squeal in the rain and because they stay dry all the time they bite more quickly than discs on a wet day. They require very little maintenance - just an annual clean and some lube on the cable. The brake shoes have an amazingly long life compared to most other types of brakes and for many users they will never require replacement. There is no weight penalty compared with the average disc brake, and they are cleaner and safer than a rotating disc.

We like these brakes so much that we are happy to recommend them to custom Trice customers over the perhaps more trendy disc brakes.

Hydraulic disc brakes - optional upgrade
Front hydraulic disc brakes are an optional upgrade and if ordered then the front wheels will come with our own designed disc brake compatible hubs.
We only supply the Gator brake 4 piston system and 180mm diameter rotors for excellent performance in extreme situations for those that prefer disc brakes.

The Gator brake is produced in a mirror image format so that left and right brakes are symmetrical giving a tidy look and very short equal hose lengths.
From 2007 trice king posts are drum and disc compatible allowing change over of the brake systems / wheels without the need to change the king posts.
These hydraulic brakes, king posts and wheels are retrofittable to all 20" wheeled Trice post 2001 (excluding Tandems).

Note: the Gator brake and our king posts are mirror imaged for a neat appearance. You may want to fit other disc brakes but the only other brakes we currently know of which fit our mirrored king post arrangement are:-

We do not supply these brakes.

Alternatively we do offer a left hand king post adaptor which allows the mounting of 2 international standard fitting front calipers. The caliper that is mounted on the left side then fits above the kingpost arm, the caliper on the right side mounts below the kingpost arm the same as our Gator brakes. Buyers of framesets may wish to go for this addition to be able to fit their own choice if disc brakes.
