Subject: review after 1/2 year riding the
ICE S
Hello Niel and ICE colleague's,
I'm sorry that it took (take?? but than
in the past) several months to write down
my experience. I'm very pleased with the
ICE S, good quality, nice riding. Until
now I have driven more than 500 km.
It was a puzzle to fit the Polar 510 in
a way that the (speed and cadence) sensor-signals
are well received by the 510. The puzzle
is solved, it works.
I changed the gearing and the crankset.
The cassette sprockets are changed to 12-13-14-15-16-17-18-19-21
and the chainrings 52/42 to 65/45 (www.ligfietsshop.nl).
The Tiagra triple crankset and front derrailleur
are changed to Shimano 600 Ultegra double,
braze-on, plus a separated band (replaced
from my old -Koga Miyata- racingbike, build
in 1992, 7-speed SIS). Changing gear with
the 65/45 chainrings in combination with
the Tiagra derrailleur doesn't work well,
the inner chainring (30T) can't by used
at all. The combination of 65/45 chainrings
with the 600 Ultegra derrailleur works very
smooth. I like the smaller distance between
the pedals of the 600 Ultegra crankset.
Now I have a close ratio gearing (sie the
calculations in xls-attachment). These are
ideal for the small hills, bridges and riding
against the wind in the relative flat landscape
where I live. The gear range is big enough.
I use a 2 liter Camelback with is placed
under the seat shell.
In the recumbent cycling position the muscle's
are used in a different way. After 6 month
training the average cadence and speed goes
up (>90-95 rpm respectively > 27-30
km/h). I ride on the road, but also very
often on a Tacx Grand Excel trainer (modified
for the 406-wheel).
Up to higher speeds!
greetings
