As I have
had the trike for nearly 2 weeks and have
just passed the 100 mile point I thought
I would pass on my comments.
First, the
standard of manufacture is excellent. I
am getting used to the technique needed
for the trike which is slightly different
to my bike, though I don't ride this like
a gorilla! Over a reasonably hilly route
the speed was down on what I had expected,
but my improved technique has in turn, improved
speed. On the flat and downhill the spped
and handling is superb. There is a little
brake effect on the steering but the independent
front brakes enable good control especially
when on wheel is on a gritty surface and
the other on a surface with good adhesion.
Some experimentation
with tyre pressures has improved the ride
which would be excellent for someone coming
from a road bike or even a mountain type
bike. I normally ride a NS Moulton which
is another matter. The trike design does
mean that one needs to look out less for
poor road surfaces, but at 35 or so mph
over a rough road surface it feels as if
I'm flying from bump to bump. Control is
still find though.
However,
I have come to the conclusion that Cane
Creek & probably other designers of
bike suspension units has a lot to learn
from Alex Moulton when it comes to suspension
design. The amount of "stiction"
in their suspension unit seems considerable
when compared with the current Moulton units.
I can only agree with Moulton's comments
when asked about mountain biuke suspension
that it was only good as " landing
gear"!
All that
has not detracted from my enjoyment of the
XXL which I certainly can recommend to others.
The service I have had from ICE has been
friendly and would be difficult to beat.
Similarly the info on your website and in
your catalogue is excellent. It puts most
of the bike industry, and others to shame
if a small enterprise can achieve so much..
Finally,
I had my first puncture on my first ride,
but the excellent tyre levers and tyre refitting
tool made a change of tube almost a pleasure.
I will be away for a couple of weeks but
will contact you on my return to see if
I can buy from you another set of tyre levers
and refitting tool for the Moulton- and
a new flag for the trike as the top part
went missing on a ride- probably a victim
of overhanging trees.
If you would
like to use any part of this Email for your
publicity, please feel free to do so.
