Custom Trikes - Features

( Click on a picture for a detailed view )

These features are not necessarily included with the Trice standard range of trikes, please see Standard Model Features or ask.

Frame
All custom Trice frames are made to order by us in our own workshops using ICE custom made lugs. All frame joints are super smooth brazed. All frames have detail braze ons for cable guides and other mounts as required. All of our main tubes are made from aircraft grade certificated BS4T45 Carbon Manganese steel tube. All other steel tubing on a custom Trice is Columbus Cro-Mo. The main frame spar and, where needed, cross axles are formed in house using our own tube bending machine.
For those in the know, we use internal ball mandrels and external formers with wiper dies to obtain the best quality smooth bends without wrinkles in the thin wall tubes.

Frameset Only
If you wish to build up your custom Trice with your own choice of components or perhaps use some drive train parts you already have then we can supply a custom frameset only. In general a custom frameset consists of all the non standard bicycle parts that you could not easily obtain from a good local bike shop. We supply items such as frame, seat, front wheels built (not including disc brakes), all steering parts ready assembled etc. For a full list of what you would need to complete a frameset, click here.

Narrower Track
Some custom Trice models are available with a Narrow track option (see price list for each model type to check availability).
Narrow track is not as ultimately stable as standard track though on the open road it rarely limits the performance and can be more practical for some owners. All trikes have a limit at which they will lift an inside wheel if turned deliberately hard enough into a corner. The key is learning the limit for each particular trike. If a Trice starts to lift a wheel, it tends to do so slowly and the rider can simply straighten up a little (or lean more) and the wheel will drop back down again. In general, we find that ultimate stability need not be the prime consideration when deciding on the narrow track option. Practicality is the main advantage especially when transporting and storing. Larger customers should be aware that the narrow track does limit cockpit space.

For a comparison between models, please see our ICE stability index in the buyers guide.

Standard Track. 31.5" (80 cm)

Narrow Track. 27.5" (70cm) 4" (10cm) narrower than standard track.

Super Narrow Track. 25" (63.5cm) 6.5" (16.5cm) narrower than standard track

Rear Suspension
Available as an option on all Trice Custom models with 18" and 20" rear wheels. ICE's rear suspension has almost 3" (75mm) of travel which gives a very smooth ride. Computer designed geometry ensures that there is no reaction to pedal pressure and no energy-sapping bobbing from the back end when climbing hills. A lightweight and adjustable air shock allows the perfect ride height no matter what load you are carrying. A rack cantilevered off the back of the seat is available for each custom Trice fitted with rear suspension. This keeps the sprung weight to a minimum and ensures the suspension works at all times.

Custom Frame Option
The frame for each model of custom Trice will suit a remarkably wide range of riders. We can also select tubes from our extensive range of T45 tubing to tailor the frame to suit you and your needs perfectly. For example this can give a lighter frame and a comfier ride for light riders, or a stiffer frame giving better power transfer and control to larger riders.

Please state your height, weight and X-seam especially if over 18st (252lbs, 115Kg) or taller than 6'2" (1.88m).

Decorative Pierced Lug Work
Now you can choose to have ICE build your custom frame with these traditional highly detailed lugs, on main frame joint and seat mount to frame joint.

Rear Dynamo Mount
Optional Rear dynamo mount: braze on + stainless steel mount. Normally fitted on the left side of the trike above the seat stay and requires a right handed dynamo. The mount offers plenty of adjustment to mount any dynamo and it can be removed with the dynamo attached making refitting the dynamo easy.

Extra Set of Bottle Bosses
Brazed on under the front boom. Custom Trice with a mesh fabric seat have two sets of bosses on the main frame as standard, one set on the front of the cruciform ahead of the cross axle and one set on the main frame under the seat on the left side. Custom Trice with a carbon composite seat have the same set on the front cruciform and two mounting points built into each side of the seat. All custom Trice also have a further set of bottle bosses fitted on the front derailleur tube which can be used for a bottle cage or more normally for the ICE optional front light mount.

Braze ons
All custom Trice frames come with an extensive selection of braze ons for cable guides and bottle cage mounts. Because the frame is custom built, many types of special braze ons can also be ordered. Please ask if you have a particular accessory you would like to fit or a feature you would like.

Here you can see the optional braze ons for a Streamer front fairing which allow the fairing to be fitted in a neater fashion on the custom Trice range.

Parking brake
All custom Trice have a parking brake on the back wheel as standard. We think a parking brake is essential. The parking brake on a custom Trice is operated by a lever on the handle bar. This V-brake can also be used as a drag brake though rarely necessary on the single seater trikes.
The Tandems have a V-brake on the back wheel generally used as a parking brake. The parking brake is very powerful and will easily hold you and the trike when fully loaded on a hill - a useful feature if you want to pause for a rest or take a photo. The parking brake also makes getting on and off the trike easier because the trike will not roll away when you try to sit down or get up.

Transport
ALL ICE trikes can be separated into smaller parts as standard to facilitate journeys by plane, car or train. The seat can be removed easily and quickly. A standard cycle rack can be used to carry your Trice on the back of most cars, or it can be carried on the roof.
The ICE tandems can be simply split in the middle for easier transport or storage. They can also be broken down into many pieces if required. The tandems come with cable joiners so that standard length gear and brake cables can be used and re joining after splitting is simple.

Easy repair and maintenance
The Trice uses as many standard cycle parts as possible which helps make maintenance inexpensive and straight forward.
For example standard bicycle headsets are used for the front wheel pivots. These head sets are of top quality. On the custom Trice we use the Stronglight A9 1" which is very light weight and has needle roller bearings with seals top and bottom.

Seat
The tubular aluminium seat with mesh fabric gives excellent comfort and ventilation. The fabric is laced onto the aluminium seat frame with adjustable straps. The seat is clamped onto the main frame and can be removed easily and quickly for transport. Over 15 degrees of seat angle adjustment is possible on all Trice models.

Every point of contact between the rider and the machine is adjustable. The distance to the pedals, the seat fabric tension for lumbar and shoulder support, the seat recline angle and the reach and width of the handlebars can all be easily fine tuned by you to your preference.

Disc brakes
Cable operated disc brakes are now fitted as standard equipment to the front wheels on all custom Trice models. These give immense stopping power. Both the disc and calliper mounting points are international standard, so if you ever wish to change the brakes, you will have no problem finding alternatives. The front hubs are custom CNC-machined and have a low profile which helps keep the overall width of the custom Trice to a minimum. Drum brakes are also available as an option on custom Trice.

Chain Tubes
The chain on a Trice runs through a tough and slippery tube over almost its complete length. This helps keep the oil on the chain by protecting it from rain and dirt, prolonging chain life. The tubes also help keep you and your Trice clean. The durable pulley and Chain tubes can now be removed from the frame for easy cleaning by undoing just one bolt.

Gear Shifters
The custom Trice models are fitted with Shimano Dura-Ace Bar end shifters as standard because they are the most reliable and durable gear shifters available and they work extremely well on the Trice.

Steering geometry
In Cornwall England, where we live, ride and manufacture the Trice the terrain is hilly. We have miles of quiet twisting lanes, consequently we have developed steering geometry that gives the Trice amazing handling at any speed. We have also eliminated any influence from braking on the steering controls. Now you can stop using just one front brake without any need to correct for brake steer. If you find this hard to believe, just take a ride! Read more here.

Tyres
We fit Schwalbe tyres as standard on the custom Trice. Depending on the model we choose from:-

Stelvio, 1.125" (28 mm) a super light weight sports tyre with a dual compound semi slick tread, Kevlar belted for puncture protection.

Marathon Slick, 1.35" (35 mm) a light weight sports tyre with a dual compound semi slick tread, Kevlar belted for puncture protection.

Marathon1.5" (40 mm) a tough touring tyre with a good tread, Kevlar belted for puncture protection.

Big Apple 2.0" (50 mm) a big, smooth rolling tyre for soaking up the bumps.

ICE always has good stocks of all these tyres and we can ship them anywhere in the world. If you would like to swap to a different Schwalbe tyre from the one shown in the spec, then please feel free to ask when ordering your custom Trice.
